What Meegan Makes!

Hello There!!  This is Meegan from What
Meegan Makes.  Amanda and I got together and decided to do a

"Guest Post Swap" today.  I am excited to be here and share with
you something that I love to do.

A friend of ours was getting ready to throw this beauty in the dump!!
I heard her talking to her son about going to the dump with this
ugly, sage green cupboard with black knobs.  Without seeing it, I
told him to take it to MY house. He said, "You won't like it-it's
UGLY!"

Well guess what?  I fell in love as soon as I saw it.  It
holds all of my crafting items.  IE; paints, brushes, ribbon,
glues, beads, scrapbook paper, etc...  I have enjoyed this piece
in our kitchen, in our bedroom and now our TV room.  I have
changed the color a few times to fit our decor.  When it was in
our bedroom I painted it silver to match what I was trying to do at
the time.  Looks good, huh?  Don't you just love those black
knobs??

I REALLY like how the paint is crackled.  Since, I have been
trying to bring softer, bluer tones into our home, like I have in our bedroom now.  I thought it was time
to paint this, as well.

I mixed Turquoise Mist-Olympic, and Robin's Egg Blue craft paint to
outline the cupboards and drawers.

Then I decided to paint just a few of the drawers just the Turquoise
Mist.  After I was this far into it, I decided to still leave
some drawers silver.  I REALLY like how it turned out :)

I like the contrast and I still have the aged look, too.
 Something unexpected.

Here is a closer look.  See, you can still see the crackled look
without even sanding it.

Amanda, thanks for having me "Guest Post" on your blog today!  I
am honored and grateful!

Make it a great day!!

Set of 6 Owl Ornaments or Plushies - Chocolate and Purple

So come Link Up HERE

Ok...
I am super excited to be co-hosting a Bloglovin' Blog Hop with Amanda from School House Scraps and Randee from Randee's Organized Chaos for the month of March.  What's Bloglovin' you ask?  Well, only the greatest way to keep track of the blogs that you love.  With the discontinuation of Google Friends Connect, I decided that I needed to find another way to keep up with all of my favorite blogs that are not hosted by blogger.  I signed up for Linky Followers and I've had great success with gaining new followers, but I’m finding I don’t get any traffic to my site from Linky.  I also do not enjoy reading my favorite blogs from there.  I stumbled upon Bloglovin' and I am in love!  It is very similar to Google Reader, in that you can see the beginning of the post and the first picture attached to the post.  Plus, Bloglovin' automatically updates your posts, unlike Linky Followers, which you have to manually update each time you write a new post.  I don't know about you, but I just don't have the time to do that every time.  Another added bonus is there is a Bloglovin' application for IPhone and Android devices.  Woohoo!  Like I don't spend enough time reading blogs.  Now it's a simple touch.  Love it!

***These are the complete instructions for sign up, so skip to the rules if you already have Bloglovin'***

In order to participate in this hop you need to sign up for Bloglovin’.  Go to Bloglovin'.   Hit the green sign up button in the right hand corner.  Next enter an email address and create your password.  You will get a confirmation eamil that you will need to follow a link back to Bloglovin' to continue the process.  Once you click on the link you will be brought to a page where it says to choose blogs to follow.  You don't need to do this.  Click next in the bottom right hand corner.  The next screen let’s you know about the mobile app so just click next again.  This screen will show that you are not following any blogs.  Click on Account in the upper right hand corner and toggle down to widget.  Choose the widget you want displayed on your page.  Put your url into the search query and it should pull up your site.  Click on your site and it will say display this icon.  The next page should bring you to a screen that has you display it into your layout.   Once you hit publish you’re done!  If you view your blog you should see the icon and now your followers can add you to their Bloglovin’ feed.  Seriously, so simple.  So let’s get to the blog hop.  This is a party so make sure to have some fun and mingle.

There are only a couple of rules:

1.       Please follow all three hostesses – The NY Melrose FamilySchool House Scraps & Randee's Organized Chaos
2.      Add Bloglovin' to your blog.

3.      Post our button for the blog hop on your page to promote the fun!

Alright, so let's have some fun and mingle!

Hunger Games

I finally got to the theaters last night to see the #1 movie in the world,
Hunger Games, which I have been SO excited to see!
I was waiting patiently (not so much) for my dear hubby to
finish the first book so we could go together and he finally finished late Sunday night!

It was worth the wait, I could watch it over and over again....I LOVED it!
I can't wait for it to come out on DVD and for Catching Fire to be in theaters now!

For those of you who missed out, here is a little snippet!
{{But get yourself to a theatre too! Even if you haven't read the book!}}

In honor of the Hunger Games, I searched around for some
great posts dedicated to District 12!

First, China Glaze has a new nail polish for each
district in the Hunger Games.

Hunger Games + Nail Polish = China Glaze Capitol Colours

Can you figure out which goes for each district?
Lovely.

L-Hop Designs has these great Team Peeta or Team Gale shirts...

Women's Hunger Games Team Peeta T-Shirt with Bread Graphic, Blue, SIZE LARGEUnisex Hunger Games Team Gale T-Shirt with Bow and Arrow Graphic, Grey

Which team are you on?

Lizy B Bakes created these amazing Hunger Games inspired cookies.

They look too pretty to eat!
{But I would!}

And, some of you may know Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings
she is a loyal linker, and has been posting Hunger Games posts
all of March, she has some AWESOME ideas, including...

This cute HOB tote, and this precious ode to Katniss tee

Love!

So now, what did you all think of the movie?
Did you all make it to the midnight premier or have you seen it since?

Oh and Update: These are my new friends :)

Tehehe :)

Terra Cotta Address Planters

You still have a couple of days to link up to the Weekend Wind Up!

Over the weekend we had different guest Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday!

We were hosting it up!

But the front entryway has not been spruced up for spring yet, so I needed
something simple and cute to greet guests as they came in.

I have seen terra cotta pots done a number of ways, but after
much consideration I came up with this for the front stoop.

Update: The tulips are blooming! :)

It was pretty easy, and you only need a few things to make your own!

Terra Cotta Plants (I needed 3)
Acrylic Paint
Stencil Brush
Stencils ( I cut mine on my Cricut)
Scotch tape
Scissors
Twine

1. First cut out your stencils or have your stencils ready to go!
Make tape rolls out of the scotch tape and put them on the back of the stencil.
Make sure to get the little areas that will be difficult to keep down on a rounded surface!

2. Adhere the stencil to your pot.
Make sure to rub it down flat after you have placed it on.
Rounded surfaces can be tricky!

3.  Use your acrylic paint and stencil brush to CAREFULLY
stencil the number onto the pot.
After you have stenciled the whole number,
wait about 4-5 minutes to take off the stencil.
You want to make sure it doesn't run!

4.  Once they are dry, you may embellish them up as much as you want.
I hot glued twine to the top for a little something special.
Then, plant your pretties in them and enjoy!

Happy Crafting!

Floor Update: DONE!

We are finished!

After sanding, sweeping, taping, staining, and finishing....
we are DONE!

Caleb worked SO hard on this project and it shows!

So... after much contemplation,
did we go two toned or just a finish....

Two toned won!!

What do you think?

I love that it defines the original spaces in this old home!

{Here I am just cleaning up the floor for staining!}

{The hubby just staining away!}

{Starting to move back in!}

Overall I am SUPER happy with it! I love the contrasting colors, although I was scared that the center was too dark at first, it matches the old wood trim and our furniture perfectly!

What do you think?!

90 Day Challenge

I did it.

Today I signed up for Visalus.

I have been skeptical, I have tried many other things, but
I am tired of not being healthy.
I am tired of making excuses for my habits, so I am making the change.
I have seen how well The 90 Day Challenge has worked for a school mate of mine, and now I am prepared for those amazing changes in myself!

I am not one to talk about my self confidence or how I feel about my looks,
but I am through not being happy with my life.

Last year in February my 47 year old, fairly fit, father suffered a minor heart attack, which
lead to a triple bypass surgery.
I will never forget how scary that time was for us all, but he came out a stronger,
healthier man, and he was so very lucky.
Since then he has lost 50 pounds, walks 4-8 miles EVERY day, and
takes better care of himself.

I did for a while, but then I fell back into my bad habits.
I am scared that my future looks much like that of my Dad's, my Grandma's (who had bypass a few years ago), and my Grandpa's (who passed away after having 7 bypasses)

I used to be fit, athletic, and energetic. I looked better, I had more engery, and was excited about life, but lately I feel lazy, and am not happy with myself for getting here.

I blamed it on my sweet tooth, on my husband, on not being in sports anymore, not practicing every day..blah blah blah, but I rarely got up to go walking or running or anything! I was always so "busy." I am not too busy for living a better life.
No one is.

So, I am cutting myself off from excuses.

I am ready!

I invite anyone who wants to take this 90 challenge to join me!

You can read all about it and sign up here at Visalus
I am nervous about doing this, so the more the merrier!

I would love a support group and would love to be there for you too!

St. Patty's Day Door Hanger

This is my last St. Patty's Day decoration for this year!

I made this right after Valentine's Day and used these on sale cookie cutters for it.

{Snagged these babies for .36 cents a pack!}

 Here is the final product....

Not to shabby, right?

To make your own you will need :

3 packs of heart shaped cookie cutters

Green Spray Paint

Hot Glue

Ribbon

+ Embellishments if you want!

Let's Go!

1. Spray Paint the cookie cutters Green.
It took me two coats, and make sure you get the
inside and outside of the cutters.

2. Once they are dry, bring them inside and
get your hot glue gun hot!

3. Lay them in a shamrock shape and hot glue the centers together.

{I had to lay them on top of each other because of the ridges,
so you will have to play with the placement a bit. }

4. Once they are dry, you will want to wrap ribbon around the center of the Largest shamrock, it is a little wobbly!

5. Now, you can arrange them and lay them out however you want!
I decided to hang them from a large green ribbon.
I used a glue dot to secure the ribbon and keep it where I wanted it,
then added the second ribbon and gems for some sparkle!

6. Once I had all the shamrocks decorated, I hot glued the ribbon of the smallest one to the back of the middle, and repeated that for the middle sized shamrock to the largest shamrock, and there you have it!

Who would have ever guessed they were cookie cutters?!

Happy Crafting!
